The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with about 4 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. For us, as the ELCA, this faith comes through the good news of Jesus Christ and gives us the freedom and the courage to wonder, discover and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world.
The Northeaster Pennsylvania Synod (NEPA) of the ELCA is one of seven synods in Region 7 and is made up of 278 congregations, 9 mission districts, and 152,000 people. We represent a wide variety of people—many ages, cultures, languages and lifestyles that are involved in the life of our communities—cities and suburbs, towns and villages. We are a 14-county area of the state—from the Delaware River to the mountains of Sullivan County and from the Lehigh Valley and the Reading area to the New York border.
Rather than spending their last dollar on a cheap hotel, homeless parents and their children can be sheltered in a participating church. Families can stay safely together in the shelter program and receive meals, counseling, love and support during a critical time in their life. Family Promise of Carbon County is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that began serving the homeless and poverty stricken in 2011. Since then our volunteers have changed the lives of so many people in Carbon County.
Since Covid has began, we started uploading our service onto YouTube. Our Sunday services are usually uploaded to our channel by Sunday evening or Monday. Check us out!
Lutheran Congregational Services (LCS) empower creative ministries that support individuals, congregations and communities in their exploration and use of the gifts God has given them. They partner with congregations and other community organizations to build capacity to serve people in need. For example, LCS consults with congregations, provides workshops for couples planning to be married, offers training for lay Eucharistic visitors, conducts a small group grief support ministry, coordinates disaster response work, and operates a new warehousing ministry that distributes supplies to people who live within Eastern Pennsylvania. LCS continues to develop and expand its ministries throughout the Northeastern and Southeastern Pennsylvania Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Heifer International's mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth. They empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but their approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Their animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market.
